The MacArthur Foundation Partners with the DMC movement to create:
The Pennsylvania DMC Youth/Law Enforcement Curriculum
In 2007, the Philadelphia Working Group, with the support of the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD), DMC Subcommittee and the MacArthur Foundation DMC Action Network, began working on a curriculum for law enforcement.
The curriculum was created through close collaboration between youth, law enforcement (Philadelphia Police Department, SEPTA Transit Police, Office of the Sheriff, School Police and Housing Police), the Defender Association of Philadelphia, the Office of the District Attorney, the Philadelphia Department of Human Services, faith based institutions and community organizations and was prepared with the assistance of experienced curriculum developers.
The curriculum was first implemented at the Philadelphia Police Academy in March 2009 and has been fully integrated into recruit training.
Over 2,000 law enforcement officers and recruits have been trained throughout the Commonwealth using The Pennsylvania DMC Youth/ Law Enforcement Curriculum
The Pennsylvania DMC Youth-Law Enforcement Curriculum has been fully replicated in 2 sites in Pennsylvania with ongoing work in other jurisdictions through forums and curriculum trainings.
The replication process involves a structured facilitator training program, ongoing mentoring from master trainers, and evaluation tools.
